Design and Development!

I have had a lot of time not having a job as of late, and one of the best things about it has been that I have had my hands surgically attached to my mouse and keyboard. (they are wireless, but still manage to hinder making tea, and greeting people)

Now, I know I haven’t spent time writing to you my beloved, instead I have been catching up on a lot of design and development that I had a giant pile of in my to do (later) box, and never actually got around to.

10+ logos, and a couple of websites later.
I had a look at my work and decided that it was

ME GOOD.

for those of you that can’t interpret my cave mindspeak

“I really think my designs are good. but they all look the same.”

Something that I find as a free time designer, is that unless I am continuously learning new design techniques and looking at other peoples designs, my own quickly get boring and predictable.

a designer I once worked with often spent extra time on projects coming at them from a completely different angle.
so instead of creating something with his style he would try to put someone elses style on the peice.

Not encouraging copycatting of course, but this is a great idea to start developing your own style.
its time to evolve!

something I would encourage is spend time looking at other peoples portfolios. and sit down and do a few tutorials.
you’d be surprised, you might actually learn something!

its a design compendium, or at least the start of one. a collaboration of architecture, artists, art, blueprints, brilliance, concepts, creativity, design, development, ener… I could go through the whole alphabet.. ..but I won’t, I’ll let the blog do that for you. xJ

Rain and 80’s german pop makes me happy.

I’d forgotten how good rain makes me feel.
I came out of Flinders train station this morning, and walked
straight into rain.

An old feeling I haven’t felt in a while reared.
“complete satisfaction”

There just seems to be something magical about rain.
or at least for me. I forget everything bad, my worries
disappear, and I stop thinking.

It’s kinda like a rush to the head.

That being said. People must have thought I was a nut.
middle of the road, red man flashing, face up to the sky
with a grin that must have stretched every facial muscle I own.

Like a movie, every happy moment must have a soundtrack.
all I could feel was rain on my face, and in my head, drowning out the red traffic man desperately calling me to step off road
onto the pavement, was Nena Hagen’s “99 luft balloons”

…on a side note. last night I bought a 1000 page book.
On the train this girl got really excited.

Utensils!

So i’m in the kitchen making mac and cheese, and can’t for the life of me find a wooden spoon. There are about 100 different utensils in this drawer. didn’t find the spoon, but I did find this… The Trebler Screw Top Jar and Bottle opener. This girls and boys is the Strong arm of the kitchen.  I was so impressed with the design, I ran around the kitchen needlessly opening jars and bottles, at a rate I am sure has to be detrimental to health and safety.   
 

Now I wanted to share this with everyone, but alas, the trebler company stopped production in 1976.

Day after Valentines

So, the 15th.

It seems as though, we are out to make a buck on whatever we can.
I used to have a problem with Valentines day, and avoided it. Whether I was seeing somebody or not. I’d find some clever way to celebrate my love for that special someone without succumbing to the capatilised Holiday.
But for the first time I simply wanted to celebrate it. on the day, with all the crappy chocolate and presents.

Something that I realise, is that sometimes we get so caught up in not being conformist. We end up missing out on some of the nicest things in life.

call Valentines day whatever you want. Cheesy, Capatalist, Childish. etc etc.
Sometimes we need to just forget ourselves, and just enjoy the moment.
Who cares that some slimy fat cat is making money of my feelings, who cares that Valentines day is a sore excuse to show love that should be shown everyday, all throughout the year. who cares, who cares, who cares!
